Gaming social signals? Perish the thought
Last week Google launched a +1 button for websites and before the day was out, Social Media Gurus were pronouncing SEO dead. Again. This time, the cause was identified as Google’s use of social signals and a +1 in the results and now on pages.
Schema.org was also launched last week, a project that actually demonstrated that Google, Bing and Yahoo can actually agree on one thing: information is easier to understand if it is tagged, and no-one likes competing standards.
Some people suspect that all three search engines also agree that information is better presented in the results page next to their ads, instead of on the site it comes from. But that is just speculation, and besides, Google wouldn’t do anything mean like that.
