There wasn't any other tech news, I hope

On the same day that Google’s I/O 2011 started with the announcement of a cloud music service, Microsoft bought Skype. For $8.5 Billion Microsoft got one of the most ubiquitous messaging services outside of MSN and Facebook messaging. They also grabbed the tech news headlines on the day that Google’s biggest event started. That was probably not a mistake either.

If anything, this is just Microsoft building a distributed social network.
