Death by arbitrage

The bankrupting of Borders/Angus & Robertson both in Australia and the USA is news. A few people have cast it as a pure web versus real world debate; in other words, that dead tree can not compete with e-books. There was one blog post that took a different view, and addressed other issues that might have contributed to Borders’ problems in Australia.

Issues like significantly higher local pricing compared with other countries, such as the USA and UK. Or how even with over a decade to see the concept of ‘buying things online’ coming, they failed to adapt as the world moved away from their business model.
